Older People
Supporting older people with small allowances
India and the family as a unit has changed, and older people can no longer rely on family support when they stop working. Others have no children or have children who, due to their own poverty, cannot help.
AIC currently provides pensions for a number of older people ensuring they have a small predictable monthly income. Additionally we give medical aid so that basic pensions are not absorbed by this, risking their health further.
AIC also funds communal social and spiritual events for older people, helping decrease their isolation and provide opportunities for fun.
The majority of those helped by VCT are supported by the Calcutta Tiljallah Relief Charity in Australia in addition to AIC.
